Waylead Company Ghana participated in a stakeholder consultation workshop organized by the Brew-Hammond Energy Centre, KNUST in partnership with the Climate Compatible Growth Network (CCG) on 19th February 2025 at the Lancaster Hotel, Accra. The workshop, titled “Scaling Up Distributed Solar PV Adoption in Ghana: A Focus on the Commercial Sector,” brought together key players from the real estate and hospitality industries, Ministry of Energy, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Energy Commission to discuss the potential of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology in supporting Ghana’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.

The Workshop: A Collaborative Effort for a Greener Future

General Secretary of GREDA, Sammy Amegayibor

The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders to explore the opportunities and challenges associated with the adoption of solar PV systems, particularly in the commercial sector. As one of the leading real estate companies in Ghana, Waylead recognizes the critical role the built environment plays in the transition to green energy. The discussions centered on the immense potential of solar PV to reduce electricity tariffs, lower carbon footprints, and contribute to energy independence.

However, the research presented by the Brew-Hammond Energy Centre highlighted several barriers to widespread adoption. These include:

– Lack of awareness and education about the benefits of solar PV systems.

– High upfront costs of purchasing and maintaining solar PV technology.

– Inconsistent governmental policies that hinder investment in renewable energy.

– Misconceptions and myths surrounding the efficiency and reliability of solar panels.

Key Recommendations for Scaling Up Solar PV Adoption

To address these challenges, the workshop participants proposed actionable recommendations, including:

  1. Government Support: Increased funding and subsidies to make solar PV systems more affordable for businesses and homeowners.
  2. Public Education Campaigns: Raising awareness about the long-term benefits of solar PV, including cost savings and environmental impact.
  3. Policy Reforms: Developing clear and consistent policies to encourage investment in renewable energy.
  4. Dispelling Myths: Providing accurate information to counter misconceptions about solar PV technology.

Waylead’s Commitment to Sustainability

As an environmentally conscious real estate company, Waylead is honored to contribute to this important conversation. We understand the impact the built environment has on the planet, and we are dedicated to creating communities that support the lives of families, professionals, and individuals from all walks of life. Our participation in this workshop underscores our commitment to integrating sustainable practices into our projects and advocating for green energy solutions.

We believe that collaboration between the private sector, government, and academia is essential to achieving Ghana’s net-zero emissions target. By working together, we can overcome the barriers to solar PV adoption and pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.

Looking Ahead

The insights gained from the workshop will inform Waylead’s approach to sustainable development as the company continues to explore innovative ways to incorporate renewable energy into their projects. Waylead remains committed to this transformative journey and are privileged to be a pacesetter in Ghana’s real estate industry.
